On September 5, 2019, media and honored guests were invited to preview the upcoming Oktoberfest to be held at The Tent at Solaire this October 17 to 19. A collaboration of German Club Manila with Solaire, this marks the 81st official Oktoberfest in Manila by the club, continuing a nearly century long tradition. The preview event was filled with delicious fare, copious servings of beer, and a sense of jolly German celebration.
Staying true to the upcoming event’s German roots, the preview was filled with Lederhosen clad men and dirndl wearing ladies serving up some Bavarian delicacies for guests. An array of sausages and an assortment of meats such as pork schnitzel, Swabian red bratwurst, Kaesekrainer, and veal sausages were presented in bountiful platters and samplers. For desserts, some apple and walnut strudel with vanilla sauce and ice cream, and Kaiserschmarn (Shredded rum raisin pancakes with berry compote and vanilla sauce) were served to round out the savoriness of the meats with some sweetness.
Excited for German Club Manila to be partnering with Solaire once again for the momentous event, Solaire’s Vice President for Food & Beverage – Knut Becker, shares that, “this year’s 81st Oktoberfest will continue to be authentic and put the spotlight on the best of German culture. Following a very successful Oktoberfest celebration last year, we are thrilled to be hosting once again German Club Manila’s Oktoberfest celebrations and look forward to continuing this partnership.” Assuring this year’s festivities will definitely top last year’s.
With an estimate of over 6,000 guests for this year’s Oktoberfest, Tobias Rast – German Club Manila’s President exclaims that, “The German Club Manila is excited to celebrate this year’s Oktoberfest celebration once again with Solaire. The previous year broke our own records. We look forward to a more dynamic and vibrant celebration of the German culture through the Oktoberfest celebration.”
Of course, an Oktoberfest won’t be complete without free-flowing beer. Weihenstephan, a Bavarian beer was served throughout the event and will surely be served in larger quantities on October 17 to 19. With all the delicious fare and exciting energy from just the preview, one can only expect a grander form of this come the festival proper.
