Commemorating the first lunar landing

To mark the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing, OMEGA crafted several timepieces. Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition and its Moonshine™ rendition is among the collection. The first limited edition has only 6,969 pieces inspired from the Apollo 11 mission. This Speedmaster Professional features a delicate sketch of Buzz Aldrin climbing down onto the surface of the moon. The other side of the watch features an astronaut’s footprint on the lunar surface, a lovely addition to the lunar-landing tribute.

The collection includes an interesting concept of different phases of the moon. There are “Dark Side of the Moon” Apollo 8, Grey Side of the Moon, and White Side of the Moon. Dark Side is made of sleek black ceramic, Grey Side features a transformed metallic grey from white ceramic, and White Side embodies the radiance of the celestial body with its white zirconium oxide ceramic dial. These three elegant timepieces render the pioneering spirit of the Apollo missions. From business meetings to formal affairs, these watches certainly add luxury to any style ensemble.

Reinventing the classic

Watch collectors all around the world seek after this timepiece that descended from the legendary Calibre 321. It began the long line of NASA-qualified Speedmaster watches for manned space missions. The brand took a total of four years to reproduce the timepiece that matches the 1861’s dimensions, and remain Master Chronometer-certified.

Among the significant changes to the Calibre were the tightening of contacts and increasing of jewels for smoother running. The new design removed frequency regulator to decrease the risk of accidental frequency shifts. OMEGA Calibre 3861 also offers incredible magnetic resistance. The elegant timepiece comes in two case materials: rhodium-plated bridges and main plate and Moonshine™ gold-plated finish. These innovative materials show the value of celebrating the golden anniversary of the first moon landing.
