On-the-go Workstation: A Review of the ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip - Product Launches

Capable of adapting to an ever-changing work environment, the ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip is an excellent choice for both business and pleasure

Since the height of the pandemic, most of our work is now happening online. While some permanently migrated into this new dynamic and others returned on-site, quite a large percent adapted a hybrid setup of both. Given this situation, having a functional workstation that can cater to a constantly-changing setup is absolutely crucial.

Although the market for high-end laptops might already be highly saturated, ASUS continues to be one of the top brands for premium devices that not only display excellent performance, but also prove to be sleek and stylish gadgets. The new ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip is the first ever flippable portable workstation in the Expert series that is particularly designed for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals and the creatives. ASUS sent over a unit to test, and having the opportunity to try it out is an overall exceptional experience that left me wanting to own one for myself.

Designed to fit contemporary aesthetics

Right off the bat, I immediately noticed how sleek the model is. Upon opening the box, I was greeted by a clean and stylish unit with a smooth matte finish in their signature Star Black color. Although I wouldn’t call it a lightweight laptop weighing at 2.7kg, it’s still a reasonable enough weight for you to be able to carry it from one place to another easily. With the amount of work this device can do on the get-go, the weight is something you wouldn’t even notice.

Crafted in a magnesium-lithium-alloy chassis, it is also MIL-STD 810H-certified giving it that military-grade strength to make it extra durable and reliable for all the on-the-road endeavors the laptop might encounter. No need to purchase extra dongles because the B6 Flip is complete with all the ports you might need such as an audio jack, an HDMI port, an SD card reader, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, and two Thunderbolt™ 4 Type-C.

Another surprising aspect about this laptop is its touchscreen. It’s smooth, responsive, and there were no delays. The screen has a 360-degree flippable design, capable of transforming itself to accommodate whatever task that needs to be done.

For business and for pleasure

While the exterior of the ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip is already impressive, the full extent of its magic reveals itself when you boot it up. With 64 GB of RAM and NVIDIA® RTX A2000 graphics, I think it’s safe to say that this is basically a portable desktop at this point. Specifically designed to complement the professional lifestyles of the AEC industries and the creative field, this laptop is equipped to power through even the most ambitious projects, from audio and video editing, to 3D modeling and rendering.

Like the other models from the ExpertBook series, the B6 Flip is powered by 12th Gen Intel® CoreTM HX processors, Intel’s highest performing CPU core yet. With this model being up to Intel® Core™ i9-12950HX vPro® 2.3 GHz, clocking in at up to 5.0 GHz, it’s specifically designed to compute extensive workload including intense gaming and efficient 3D rendering. Able to multitask background tasks efficiently, the 12th Gen Intel® CoreTM HX processors can carry out multithreaded performance for multiple tasks simultaneously.

For the AEC and creative fields, having the right software is the key to work efficiently and deliver excellent results. This is why the B6 Flip is certified to run professional tools from independent software vendors or ISVs. The AEC professionals can bring their extensive ideas to life with softwares such as 3dsMax, Maya, and Revit. For ambitious pursuits in 3D modeling and printing, tools such as Creo, Microstation, and SolidWorks can run seamlessly in the B6. Additionally, Adobe applications for the creatives can be easily launched, hassle-free.

With the AEC and creative industries growing at a fast pace, a premium laptop such as the B6 is engineered to perfectly complement their cutthroat professional lifestyles. The professional-grade graphics is equipped with NVIDIA AmpereTM architecture to help architects further hone their craft from videos to animations and 3D rendering. Its versatility means that the flippable screen can be transformed into your very own tablet, with the 16-inch display compatible with the MPP 2.0 ASUS Pen that can support up to 4096 pressure levels. Quick sketches and write-ups while on the field can be easily done, especially for a hybrid setup.

From personal experience

A usual work day for me involves dozens of tabs open for all the writing, researching, and editing I do on a daily basis, with my curated playlist from Spotify softly playing in the background. On days when my schedule is not jam packed and the workload is quite light, I dabble in Photoshop and InDesign whenever I can. With the amount of power this 16-inch laptop holds, a day of continuous writing with the occasional use of Adobe apps prove to be a breeze for the B6 Flip. There were no lags, hiccups, or even a moment when the loading screen took more than five seconds to execute whatever application I chose. The only thing I noticed is how a day of heavy usage only lasted me for five hours, with the battery saver mode only giving me an extra hour to work with. However, this was redeemed when it was quickly fully charged in just an hour and a half.

While the ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip swept through my typical work day with ease, a night of streaming and a weekend of gaming is where I truly felt the power it possesses. After a long day of writing, I had the night to relax and watch BTS member j-hope’s special documentary on Disney+, j-hope IN THE BOX, and streamed The Last of Us on HBO. The Dolby Atmos® certified sound system did not disappoint and gave a true cinematic experience to an otherwise simple movie night at home. Game night with friends also proved to be a simple task for the B6 Flip as I played through multiple maps in VALORANT with an FPS capped at 256 frames, and explored the world of Teyvat in Genshin Impact. Even with maximum settings on, there were no FPS drops, even when I streamed the game on Discord. I also didn’t have to worry about the device overheating because of its optimized cooling system.

A smart investment

If you’re looking for a reliable and heavy-duty workstation that can adapt and perform exceptionally well whether it’s for work or for personal use, the ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip is indeed something worth investing in. Although I wasn’t able to maximize it up to its full potential, given that my work doesn’t involve heavy 3D rendering or extreme visual editing, with the laptop being up to Intel® Core™ i9-12950HX vPro® 2.3 GHz and up to 4 TB of ultra-fast M.2 storage, ambitious business endeavors in the AEC industries can be easily executed by the B6 Flip.

In these industries where everything is constantly evolving, having a reliable laptop that can confidently get you through a day of productivity and a night of entertainment can be considered now as an essential. Given how technology is continuously advancing. The ASUS ExpertBook B6 Flip proves to be a device that is up to speed when it comes to accommodating a professional lifestyle that can accompany you on the road and the comforts of your home.
