The accessory is part of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2022 line, the campaign of which sees the return of Kendall Jenner.
Givenchy recently released Spring-Summer 2022 line, the campaign of which was produced by creative director Matthew M. Williams and lensed by the Korean-born German photographer Heji Shin. This is the second time she lensed a campaign for the luxury brand.
What caught our attention the most? The Kenny handbag, which is inspired by the Parisian house’s couture heritage and the fresh momentum Williams has brought in.
A day-to-evening fashion statement, the Kenny is a supple bourse-style handbag that nods to evening yet offers enhanced versatility thanks to William’s vision and signature flair for hardware.
Crafted in extremely soft calf leather, the Kenny has an intricate, rounded construction with hand-draped folds interspersed with G-Cube elements. This finds a counterpoint in double G-Cube chain straps as well as Givenchy’s signature padlock. It includes a shoulder piece also in soft calf leather and a discreet, magnetic closure that fastens crisply.
Other Kenny designs include one in organza crafted using the couture techniques for which the House is renowned, a savoir-faire that also was highlighted on selected pieces in the Givenchy Spring-Summer 2022 runway show. Another variation, fully embroidered with mother-of-pearl, also appears in the current Spring- Summer campaign.
Featuring a series of arresting color and black and white images, this campaign captures the energy of the collection and the excitement of the House’s collaboration with American artist Josh Smith, who brings a hint of subversion to the campaign visuals with his freestyle brushwork.
Spring-Summer 2022 also sees the return of Kendall Jenner, alongside other renowned talents, dressed in key looks and carrying the Kenny.
The Givenchy Spring-Summer 2022 ready-to-wear collection for women and men bridges classical, radical, and utilitarian currents. Razor-sharp suits, sculpted peplums, a russet fit-and-flare knit mini-dress, or a fringed party top contrast well against freewheeling brush strokes and bold colors.
For men, strong-shouldered tailoring, hoodies and artistically distressed denims are paired with accessories such as a lime green duffle-style G Zip bag, a bleach-bottle-shaped ceramic shoulder piece, or Monumental Mallow footwear.
“It was incredible to partner so closely with Josh–someone whose electric work and unencumbered perspective I’ve long admired–on all aspects of this collection including this campaign,” Williams says. “To me, his artistic vision represents Givenchy’s modern ethos, and I’m grateful that Josh has let me–and, now, so many others–fully step into and explore his world.”
On the printed page, seemingly improvised brushwork by Josh Smith brings dynamic color to the visuals, letting them pop even more. A mixed-media video campaign filmed in Paris and Los Angeles further reflects this artistic collaboration: models wearing key looks and accessories from the Spring-Summer 2022 collection are captured in a fast-moving montage set in a garden.
