David Tennant hosts BAFTAs

Scottish actor David Tennant hosted this year’s BAFTA Awards. A report by Variety said the announcement that he would be hosting received an “overwhelmingly positive response.” He said he was excited to host the event but admitted he was bewildered and didn’t know what to expect. He agreed, however, that the hosting stint was a privilege.

One of his most hilarious lines in his monologue is his jab at Donald Trump while referencing Emma Stone’s Poor Things. Deadline reported that Tennant said, “Poor Things, where a child’s brain is put in an adult’s body. And later this year, one of those may be reelected president.”

He expressed delight to the film Wonka as it was “a film all about chocolate.” The Doctor Who actor poked fun, saying the film gave people a “Boost,” which is a chocolate bar brand, along with Twix, Crunch, and Aero. He asked the audience to explain to their American friends that these were like Hersheys, but tastier.

Sweeping wins of “Oppenheimer

Golden Globe award-winning film Oppenheimer swept wins at the BAFTAs as it earned seven awards. It won Best Film, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Lead Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.

Murphy’s acceptance speech contained his reflection about his character and called the film a “colossally knotty, complex character.” After which, he acknowledged the “Oppenhomies,” a brilliant play of words in honor of the film’s fans.

Cillian Murphy gave a shoutout to his “Oppenhomies” during his acceptance speech at the BAFTA Awards.

Poor Things” has second biggest wins at BAFTA Awards

Stone’s Poor Things won five awards at the ceremony, second to Oppenheimer’s seven victories. She won Best Leading Actress, while the film took home the awards Best Costume, Best Makeup and Hair, Best Production Design and Best Special Visual Effects.

The actress paid tribute to her mom in her acceptance speech, saying she’s the best person in the world.

“Without her none of this exists, including my life, so thanks for that too, mom. Thank you so much,” she continued.

Prince William’s attendance at the BAFTA Awards

The Prince of Wales, Prince William, flew solo in this year’s BAFTAs. Usually, he and his wife and the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton attend the awards ceremony together. Her non-attendance this year is due to her abdominal surgery conducted last month.

The Prince wore a velvet tuxedo jacket with black lapels, trousers, and a bowtie. He met with award winners and the EE Rising Star Award nominees after the ceremony.
