Illustrator-painter Carne Griffiths has made 70 limited-edition prints of “The Platinum Queen,” a portrait of Elizabeth II prior to coronation. Each print marks a year since the queen’s Accession seven decades ago.

Griffiths teamed up with West Contemporary Editions and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) to exclusively release the 70 artworks on top of 20 artist proofs.

West Contemporary Editions, which sells limited-edition prints online, said each artwork is characteristically unique.

“Each piece will be hand-finished by the artist, produced using mixed media and with three screen-printed layers (a fluorescent, a diamond dust, and a genuine platinum leaf layer) making each one a completely unique artwork,” the e-commerce gallery wrote.

Griffiths’ signature is using alcohol, tea, and other nontraditional mediums to create his artworks. He works primarily with calligraphy inks, graphite, and liquids to produce his intricate drawings.

Good cause

The recommended retail price of the prints is 1,550 pounds (roughly $1,950) each.

From each sale, 150 pounds (roughly $188) will benefit the GOSH Childen’s Charity. Funds raised will support the hospital’s most urgent needs.

“It could fund research into pioneering new treatments for children, provide the most up-to-date medical equipment, fund support services for children and their families, and support the essential rebuilding and refurbishment of the hospital,” the stakeholders posted jointly.

The project has already raised at least 20,000 pounds (roughly $25,000). Furthermore, the organizers hope to increase this to 30,000 pounds (roughly $37,000).
