Price Is Right: Mark Zuckerberg Sells San Francisco Home for a Record $31 Million

Apparently, Zuck wasn’t the best neighbor.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder, CEO of Facebook, and the 20th richest person in the world, just sold his San Francisco home for a record $31 million. According to The Real Deal, it’s the largest residential sale in the city this year.

Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan purchased the more than 7,400 square-foot home in 2012 for only $10 million—three times its current value. Per Maison Global, it was 1,800 square feet smaller before extensive renovations by the couple.

Taking space

The property sits on the edge of the Mission District and Dolores Heights neighborhoods with four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The home is now going to a new owner (who’s based in Delaware). And the neighborhood may be happy about that. As reported by Daily Mail, Zuckerberg received a series of complaints from his neighbors due to construction noise, trash, and his security taking desirable parking slots.

In response, his spokesperson said that the security team’s cars were parked legally and “regrets” any inconvenience caused.

Family estate

The tech giant owns a series of homes in San Francisco, the home of Silicon Valley, where he founded his company. In 2012, Zuckerberg bought a $37 million “five-house compound” in Silicon Valley. A year prior, he purchased a $7 million house in Palo Alto—which he transformed into an estate after acquiring its surrounding properties.

The publication said he meant to re-sell the homes to a real estate developer. But in 2016, the City of Palo Alto’s Architectural Review Board blocked his plans to demolish the four surrounding houses and buildings from scratch.

But these were just rumors. Zuckerberg’s architect Kathy Walker of Walker-Warner Architects, denied the news in a public board meeting in 2017. Walker confirmed that the entrepreneur planned to create a compound for just his family. Zuckerberg and Chan have two young children, Maxima and August.
