In an innovative move by the Los Angeles-based designer, Puey Quiñones has launched a new e-commerce website for eager clientele along with a digital fashion show featuring two new collections.
As we enter a new era of business with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new landscape is shaping on how different industries must adapt to survive in the redefined normal. In the realm of fashion, many ateliers have heeded the call for a more active role for designers in aiding during the crisis. Puey Quiñones was one of many Filipino designers that has created and donated masks and PPEs for medical front liners and essential workers. He has now made his PPEs available for order on his new website along with a digital fashion show hosted by Tim Yap.
Entitled Forward Fashion, the digital runway featured Quiñones’ Summer 2020 collection and a special Fashion for Protection collection. The former features light day-dresses in a an array of prints and solid cotton. On creating these pieces, Quiñones shares, “I wanted to create a handful of dresses that represent the relaxed mood of summer…Slip into one of these dresses and make beauty and comfort look effortless.” The Summer 2020 collection also includes sleek neoprene dresses that add a modern chic vibe to the show. “The designs in neoprene are so simple and elegant they will never go out of style,” Quiñones said. “They are an important addition to any fashionable woman’s wardrobe.”

But the main highlight of the show and the website’s launch is surely the Fashion for Protection collection. In this collection, the personal protective equipment suit, labelled as the PQ PPE, which is made from DOH-approved, water resistant, and breathable fabric is the true centerpiece of the show and website launch. The suit provides an accessible and stylish means for people to go out of their homes safely. Quiñones shares, “The goal of the Fashion for Protection Collection was to create a line of PPE suits that are affordable and chic. The PQ PPE offers [the] wearer an additional layer of protection when traveling, shopping, or visiting other high risk locations.”
In accessory to the PQ PPE, Quiñones has also released a line of pocket-sized hygienic products available on the website. PQ Essentials include hand sanitizer, alcohol, and liquid soap—all FDA approved and bamboo scented.
With this launch, Puey Quiñones has proven that fashion can take a responsible stand in times of crisis and adapt in this new normal environment where not only can they survive with a new summer collection, but also thrive by the integration of e-commerce with offering products that intersect safety and style.
