Those seeking to begin the Chinese New Year with an abundant table can choose to dine at fine-dining restaurant Lung Hin at the Marco Polo Ortigas Manila for their celebrations. Chinese Executive Chef Terry Lai has prepared two special Cantonese menus for the occasion. Specials created for the holiday include a suckling pig cold cuts combination platter, steamed live garoupa with minced garlic in supreme soy sauce, steamed fresh lobster with glutinous rice in a bamboo basket and braised abalone with fish maw in oyster sauce.

Also, don’t forget to order the luxury hotel’s traditional rice cakes (nian gao). Choose between the brown sugar-flavored gold bar (which are available in boxes of one and two pieces) or the traditional round variant (available in orange or brown sugar flavors). Box sets begin at PHP 798.00.

Pun Choi, a mouthwatering dish also known as “basin food” will take the center stage at Canton Road at Shangri-La Fort this Chinese New Year.  The traditional delicacy is a treasure trove of ingredients meticulously put together in a single bowl. Ingredients include a mix of shrimp, flower mushroom, chicken, roast duck, sea moss fish ball, dry oyster, abalone, sea cucumber, fish maw, lettuce and broccoli in oyster sauce.

Executive Chinese Chef Wang Wei Qing has also prepared other traditional dishes that will titillate the palette. For instance, Yee Sang will be available until February 5. The raw fish salad (using Norwegian salmon) can be used for the annual “Prosperity Toss” (tossing your food together with a pair of chopsticks). The traditional ritual represents luck and happiness. “The higher the toss, the more chances of one’s wishes coming true,” shared the hotel in a statement.

There will be two special menus available at Canton Road from now until February 5, 2019. “The Happiness Menu” will be priced at PHP 29,888 nett, the “Abundance Menu” is set at PHP 32,888 nett, and the “Wealth Menu” will be PHP 38,888 nett. Each special menu feeds up to 10 people and are inclusive of a non-alcoholic beverages package. The higher the price of the menu, the more signature dishes are included. Private dining can be accommodated for groups who book one of the eight private dining rooms at the restaurant. These function rooms seat up to 28 people.

This February 4 to 8, the expert master chefs at Spiral buffet have something special planned for those looking to celebrate Chinese New Year in style the luxury hotel. Spiral’s new Chinese master chef Yui So Chan will be creating dishes for prosperity this. His upcoming offerings features 12 new dishes that represent wealth, health and abundance in Chinese cuisine. Apart from the famous Spiral buffet, intimate restaurant Le Bar is also joining in on the Chinese New Year fun. They will be offering a selection of Chinese dishes featuring Cantonese Style Braised Beef, Kung Pao Mixed Seafood and Steamed Pork Ribs in Black Bean Sauce. Diners can also opt to do hot pot, or order their choice of stir-fried dishes and dim sum for PHP 799.00 nett per dish.

There is no better way to usher in a new year of life and happiness together with family and friends than with a grand feast,” shares Chef So, who has been in the culinary business for 36 years.

  • February 8, 2019 : Php2,850 nett per person for lunch and Php3,450 nett per person for dinner
