Game of Thrones, which the series is a prequel to, only amassed 2.2 million for its pilot episode.
HBO’s House of Dragon drew nearly 10 million viewers upon its release, making it the most-watched network premiere in history. On Sunday, August 21, 9.986 million fans tuned in across traditional TV and online channels. Its largest market helms are from the United States, Latin America, and the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) as Warner Brothers. Discovery announced.
The new series, which stars Milly Alcock (Upright), Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown), Emma D’Acry (Truth Seekers), and Olivia Cook (Ready Player One, Bates Motel), is a prequel to HBO’s highly successful Game of Thrones.
By its eighth and final season, Game of Thrones amassed 44 million viewers. For its pilot episode, the original show based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book series A Song of Ice and Fire obtained 2.2 million only viewers.
Heart and soul
“It was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans return with us to Westeros last night. House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production. We’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response,” says Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer, HBO, and HBO Max, in a press release.
“We look forward to sharing with audiences what else George, Ryan, and Miguel have in store for them this season.”
House of Dragon tells the story of the Targaryen war that took place around two centuries before the events portrayed in Game of Thrones.
