Tribes Opening Night

Despite the heavy Friday traffic, theater fans enthusiastically trooped to the Power Mac Center Spotlight in Circuit Makati for the gala night performance of Red Turnip Theater’s fourth season opener Tribes. The five ‘Turnips’ comprised of Cris Villonco, Ana Abd Santos, Rem Zamora, Jenny Jamora and Topper Fabregas entertained their guests with an open bar of wine and beer that helped set the mood for a relaxing evening at the theater.

The offbeat comedy powerfully written by Nina Riane tackled an unusual love story about a deaf young man and a woman going deaf and their struggles living with their unconventional family. The two-act play reinterpreted in a Filipino setting used a lot of sign language that included subtitles for those who did not know how to sign. Gawad Buhay awardee Teroy Guzman along with Dolly de Leon, Kalil Almonte, Cris Pasturan and Angela Padilla received a standing ovation for their powerful performance that evening.
