Gen Z Is Now On Food Supplements: A Quick Guide

By

Wellness culture has entered its supplements era. Gen Z is obsessing over magnesium, ashwagandha, psyllium husk, and chlorophyll—but what are they?

It started with a casual scroll on TikTok—next thing I knew, every effortlessly cool girl (and gay) was popping food supplements like they were limited-edition lip glosses. Suddenly, magnesium is the new iced matcha, ashwagandha is the personality trait of the month, and chlorophyll drops are being added to water like it’s holy.

It’s no longer enough to have a skincare routine and a stable Wi-Fi connection; now you need a shelf of mysterious powders and capsules that promise better sleep, better skin, and possibly a better life. And honestly? I get it. Who doesn’t want to wake up feeling like a soft-focus version of themselves instead of a raccoon that fought God?

But here’s the thing: these TikTokers aren’t doctors—and neither am I. We’re all just girlies on the internet trying to heal our bodies, minds, and maybe our gut health before brunch. So no, this isn’t medical advice; it’s simply a love letter to the supplements currently trauma-bonding with our nervous systems.

Magnesium

Magnesium is that silent hero your body’s begging for—helping your muscles chill out and your sleep stop acting like a badly written plot twist. It’s also great when your anxiety decides to host a rave in your chest. Basically, it’s the mineral version of a warm hug.

Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk is nature’s way of asking, “Hey bestie, when was your last proper poop?” It bulks things up, keeps your gut moving smoothly, and stops your stomach from holding grudges. Not glamorous, but neither is constipation.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is like texting your brain, “breathe, babe,” when life gets too loud. It helps tone down stress without forcing you into monk-level calmness. Think of it as emotional bubble wrap—soft, protective, mildly addictive.

Lion’s Mane

Lion’s mane doesn’t make you grow a mane, sadly, but it does help your brain stop acting like it’s running on three browser tabs and a prayer. It gives your focus a gentle nudge and keeps your thoughts from buffering mid-sentence. Brain fog? Never heard of her.

Melatonin

Melatonin is your body’s natural “log off” button when your brain insists on scrolling at 3 AM. It whispers to your internal clock, “Hey, it’s bedtime, stop overthinking.” Take it, and suddenly your bed feels less like a courtroom for intrusive thoughts.

Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll is what happens when someone bottles the feeling of drinking green juice and pretending you have your life together. It freshens you from the inside out—like internal mouthwash but bougie. A couple of drops in your water and suddenly you’re a forest fairy with better digestion.
