Sneak Peek: Lifestyle Asia's April 2018 Issue Celebrates the Best of the Philippines - LA Lives

The latest edition of Lifestyle Asia, the country’s leading luxury magazine for three decades, has hit leading newsstands and the digital FLIP100 app. This April, we celebrate the best of the Philippines by putting four women on our cover, who we feel are greatly improving the local art and design scene through their innovative work. Paloma Urquijo Zobel, Olivia d’Aboville, Jessica Kienle Maxwell, and Maureen Disini were lensed by photographer Cyrus Panganiban at the historic Rizal Park Hotel for the cover shoot.

“The challenge as an artist is to stay relevant. I certainly hope I will sustain my career as an artist doing meaningful work,” shared Olivia d’Aboville in a canded chat with Lifestyle Asia Editor in Chief Anna Sobrepeña. The young mother and artist has created pieces that have garnered the attention of international audiences. Since her first solo exhibit entitled Chasms of Fantasies at the Ayala Museum in 2010, d’Aboville has been invited to participate in numerous shows abroad. She has received commissions to do work for clients in Asia and Europe, all thanks to her distinct style. Also on the cover is Jessica Kienle Maxwell, who helms Philippine-based furniture brand Philux with her sister Stephanie. Together, the young ladies have opened numerous stores around the metropolis. The business isn’t only a leading name in luxury furniture retail, but also spreads Filipino craftsmanship to a global audience.

Maureen Disini has also shared her story with the magazine, detailing her rise into the world of fashion design. “There are no shortcuts to success. Work hard, stay inspired, and always have a point of view,” she shares in the cover story. Today, Maureen is a sought after couturier, creating modern gowns for her high-profile clientele. Lastly, Paloma Urquijo Zobel shines a light on local textiles through her popular ready-to-wear clothing line Pio Pio. The young fashion lover sources traditional Filipino weaves for her everyday wear brand. She is responsible for developing a local artist community in Palawan. All of these strong-willed women share a common goal: to promote artistry that is truly Filipino.
