In partnership with NordCham Philippines and Philippines Norway Business Council, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila announces the return of its annual Crayfish Party. Dubbed as “Asia’s Biggest Viking Party for a Cause,” the night is an upholding of an old Nordic tradition that goes back centuries adapted to modern day festivities.
To be held on September 14, 2019, at Sofitel’s Harbor Garden Tent, the tradition of the celebratory eating of crayfish dates back to the 16th century with the Swedish King Erik XIV. The Scandinavian feast was celebrated in garden parties marking the end of summer. It has since gone on to be popular in many other countries and has been officially celebrated in Manila for over 20 years. This year marks the second time that Sofitel has hosted the event and is for the benefit of the Chosen Children Village Foundation – a foundation dedicated to providing a home for physically and mentally-challenged children from around the country.
Aside from the bountiful amount of crayfish that awaits, other Scandinavian fare will also be served at the feast. These include gravlax with honey dill mustard sauce, herring and potatoes, Swedish meatballs with gravy and lingonberry jam, sausages, surkål, cod and salmon fillets, and sailor’s stew. Check out some of their dishes below.
