The Duke of Sussex’s much-awaited memoir will be published globally on January 10, 2023 and can be pre-ordered online. Donations from his book proceeds will support British charities.
According to the Penguin Random House website, “Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.” The website says that the book captures Prince Harry’s story with “raw and unflinching honesty.” The publisher adds, “It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two young princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow–and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling–and how their lives would play out from that point on.
For Harry, this is that story at last.”
Penguin Random House also states that Prince Harry wishes to support British charities with donations from his proceeds from Spare. In the past Prince Harry has donated $1,500,000 to Sentebale, which is an organization that supports vulnerable children and young people affected by HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. The Duke founded this organization with Prince Seeiso to honor their mothers’ legacies. Furthermore, the Prince will be donating to WellChild, a non-profit organization an amount of £300,000 which he has served as Royal patron for 15 years. The non-profit organization makes it possible for children and young people with complex health needs to receive care at home instead of the hospital.
Otherwise known as The Duke of Sussex, the author is a husband and father, humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist. He currently lives in Santa Barbara, California with his family and three dogs.
