Known as one of fashion’s most spectacular and fantastical events, the Met Gala returns this year after taking a year off because of the pandemic. As things were before the pandemic, the night once again brought together some of the most creative minds, glamorous stars and industry legends.
As always, this year’s event is meant to benefit the Costume Institute of the Met, or New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The September, the Costume Institute will open the exhibit, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”
“American Independence” is definitely of the minds of the guests, who each came with their own take of the theme.
Aside from the curious fashion, accessories also garner a lot of attention during the Gala, with attendees as particular with what adorned their wrists, fingers, and necks than just what’s on their backs. One favorite of the night seem to be the Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega.
Kaia Gerber, who is part of the OMEGA family alongside her mother Cindy Crawford, was wearing a dress by Oscar de la Renta and coupled her look with a De Ville Prestige timepiece in stainless steel.
The 27.40 mm watch is notable for its black lacquered dial and diamond indexes, along with a bezel paved in diamonds. In addition to the watch, Gerber wore an Omega Dewdrop ring in 18K white gold with a pear-shaped diamond, as well as a pair of Aqua Swing earrings in 18K white gold with diamonds.
Notable men
Track and field star Noah Lyles was also on the red carpet. The 24-year-old is the current world champion and also holds the world record in 300-meter sprint. Just a few weeks ago, he won a bronze medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Lyles wore an Omega Constellation in 18K yellow gold. The 39 mm watch has an opaline white silvery dial and a Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement, offering a level of precision and performance that any athlete would be proud of.
American comedian, television host, and actor Jimmy Fallon, on the other hand, wore a Speedmaster Professional Mark II ST145.034 from 1972. The 47-year-old man has been holding court at The Tonight Show since 2014. Fallon’s timepiece choice was a classic, which is one valid way to approach the night.
While many feel that guests were too safe with their fashion choice this year, going with what looks good on you—such as a well-paired Speedmaster—should never go out of style.
