Full Preview: The Entire First Drop of the Gucci x Adidas collaboration has been Released

By

Collaborations are still in style.

Last February, at Gucci’s AW22 “Exquisite” show, its creative director, Alessandro Michele, confirmed his collaboration with Adidas by including some of the partnership’s pieces on the runway.

Now, the first drop’s complete collection has been released with a lookbook inspired by Adidas’ eighties archival catalogs, captured by photographer Carlijn Jacobs.

In the collaborations of other megabrands (Fendace, Burberry x Supreme, and Gucci x Balenciaga’s Hacker Project, to name a few), pieces are often imprinted with brand signifiers to communicate each label’s presence.

Gucci x Adidas is no different (we special mention Marni and Uniqlo’s recent collab that made their signature design elements speak for their own).

Adidas’ three stripes and the Gucci monogram appear as simultaneous elements on joggers, zippered sweats, shorts, bell bottoms, and pencil skirts in the gender-fluid men’s and women’s wear collection.

Leveling up athleisure

At the same time, the German sportswear brand’s Gazelle sneakers, which Michele is a fan of, get the Gucci treatment. Iterations of the Gazelle are created in loafers, sandals, and clogs, featuring Gucci’s intertwined GG logo.

Beyond athleisure ready-to-wear and footwear, the collaboration includes luggage and accessories like headbands and umbrellas. In addition, a golf bag printer in the Italian house’s monogram features Adidas’ trefoil with three stripes and the name “Gucci” underneath.

Although it’s always exciting to see fashion powerhouses working together, we wonder if the age of the collaboration will ever go out of style. The luxury fashion industry was worth $110.64 billion despite the pandemic last year, according to global sales.

And to a report by Business Wirethe figure will rise to $153.97 billion by 2026. Considering what many brands have been doing to connect with new consumers, collaborating has been a mainstay in recent years.

Gucci x Adidas will be available on June 7 across select Gucci stores, dedicated pop-ups, online on Gucci.com, and the Adidas CONFIRMED app. More drops of Gucci x Adidas will be released throughout the year.
