Super Bowl 2022: Rams Beat Bengals in Year of the Tiger, While Halftime Show Spotlights Racism on Black History Month - Trending

Victory goes to LA, but our money is on the halftime performance.

The 2022 Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show was more unpredictable than the main event, as the Los Angeles Rams proved to be the safe bet against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Here are highlights in and out of the annual championship game of the US National Football League (NFL).

Comeback Route

Although it’s a good year to take calculated risks, the Rams demonstrated that playing safe can do wonders for one’s fortune. They won 23-20 against the Bengals—and on the Year of the Tiger, to boot!

Weeks before the game, fans had commented that the matchup significantly favored the Rams in terms of offense, defense, special teams, offensive line, defensive line, receiving corps, secondary, coaching, experience, star power, and home field at California’s SoFi Stadium.

Moreover, they believed that the Bengals were only banking on quarterback Joe Burrow. Just days ago, the league named him the 2021 AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

The real comeback, however, came from the Rams, who had previously lost to the New England Patriots 13-3 in the 2019 Super Bowl LIII.

Wide receiver Cooper Kupp caught the game-winning touchdown pass that sealed victory for his team and the title of Most Valuable Player this year for himself.

Forward Progress

Meanwhile, social justice took center stage at the halftime show as hip-hop made its comeback.

Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige, and Snoop Dogg headline the show, featuring a surprise performance from 50 Cent.

Eminem took a knee during “Lose Yourself,” Dr. Dre delivered his “still not loving police” line from Still D.R.E., and Lamar performed the Black Lives Matter anthem “Alright.” This was all during the observance of Black History Month in the United States.

Furthermore, this was despite reports that the NFL attempted to censor these musical choices before the halftime show took place.

Eminem’s kneeling, in particular, brought to mind the controversy surrounding former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The NFL allegedly blacklisted Kaepernick for taking a knee in protest of racial inequality and police brutality.
