The Best Dressed Stars At The 2023 Tony Awards

The 76th annual Tony Awards is here to celebrate Broadway’s best and brightest.

The annual Tony Awards honors the best Broadway productions and its stars, who showed up to the event embodying elegance and theatricality.

Here are just some of the best dressed celebrities who attended the awards show last Sunday at the United Palace in New York City.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o pushed style boundaries with her silver breastplate, which was custom made by Pakistani designer Misha Japanwala. In describing Japanwala’s work, Nyong’o said that it is “rooted in the rejection and deconstruction of external shame attached to one’s body.” 

“In her artistic process, she creates a realistic and true record of a person’s body as an act of resistance and celebration, and an insistence on being allowed to exist freely in our bodies,” the actor continued in her Instagram post.

Jessica Chastain, the star of A Doll’s House, brightened up the Tonys’ red carpet with a sunshine yellow Gucci gown, complete with a dramatic cape and a necklace from the same brand.

Jodie Comer, who won one of the biggest awards of the night for her tour-de-force performance in Prima Facie, graced the event in a simple but chic black gown. Comer paired the strapless gown designed by Thom Browne with Ana Khouri jewelry.

The award show’s best leading actor in a musical, J. Harrison Ghee, wore a stunning blue trumpet gown to the event. Ghee’s stylist, Jerome LaMaar, described the look as a “fusion of Afro-Futurism, regal glamour, Grace Jones, physical abundance and historical elements.”

Dylan Mulvaney of TikTok fame wore a Christian Siriano gown for her Tony Awards debut. The black off-the-shoulder gown had silver dots scattered all over and also featured a corseted silhouette.

Sara Bareilles

Singer, songwriter, and musical actor extraordinaire Sara Bareilles wore a red dress by Georges Chakra to this year’s Tony Awards. The day after the event, Bareilles confessed in an Instagram story that she almost didn’t wear her dream dress due to body insecurities. Luckily, her partner Joe Tippett encouraged her to just wear what she loved.

“I went with the dress that I felt lucky to wear—excited to walk around in—a little bit scared of—and ultimately shed something on behalf of joy,” the singer shared.
