The Hills Are Alive: Highlights From Jess Wilson and Moritz Gastl’s Wedding in Salzburg, Austria

Sam, the bride’s brother, gave a speech written by their late father.

A year after their civil wedding in Palawan’s Sunlight Eco Tourism Island Resort, Jess Wilson and Moritz Gastil pushed through their initial plan of a church nuptial in Salzburg, Austria.

Wilson, the co-founder of Sunnies Face, and Gastil, the Germany-born VP of SME lending startup Growth, First Circle, met in Maastricht, Netherlands. At the time, in 2011, Wilson was on student exchange from Sydney University and was living in Maastricht for three months.

And the rest was history. Gastil proposed in September 2019 (the same month they met) and planned an Austrian wedding for the following year. Unfortunately, the pandemic shifted the plans, but they finally held their dream wedding this week.

“Worth the wait,” Wilson wrote in an Instagram post. In attendance were Wilson’s It girls’ family members, Sunnies business partners, and friends such as Georgina, Isabelle Daza, Martine Ho, Eric Dee, Bea Soriano-Dee, Vicky Belo, and Hayden Kho.

While Wilson shared many highlights on her social media, we’ve rounded up the Austrian festivities’ heartwarming, fashionable, and exciting moments.

Traditional German dress code for the pre-wedding day

In honor of Gastil’s German roots, the couple and their guests wore dirndls and lederhosen for the pre-wedding event. Anina Drindl, a label specializing in alpine fashion, provided the customary frocks of the bride, Georgina, Daza, and Ho.

Wilson wore her dream wedding dress

In 2019, Wilson fitted the Monique Lhuiller gown she’d wear to her wedding day. “It was the first dress I tried on, and [I] bought it right away,” the co-founder recounts. “I saw it online and didn’t try on any other dress after.” Designer Vania Romoff did the alterations for the dress to fit better.

The Philippines’ top wedding suppliers made the trip

From the pre-wedding day gathering amid Salzburg’s hills to the reception hall, one of the Philippines’ top event designers, Teddy Manuel made the trip and worked his magic.

At the same time, Jason Magbanua, who made the wedding film of Camille Lhuillier and Andrea Albani’s recent Italy wedding, was the official videographer. In fact, Manuel and Magbanua, were also tapped for Wilson’s beach nuptials in Palawan.

On glam duty were celebrity-favorites Suyen Salazar for hair and Jelly Eugenio for make-up.

Erwan Heussaff and Nico Bolzico surprised the couple

Good friends of the couple, entrepreneurs Erwan Heussaff and Nico Bolzico, initially told them they couldn’t attend the wedding. However, the duo set up a fun prank by dressing up as part of the pre-wedding event band to reveal their presence.

Martine Ho re-wore her wedding reception dress

Although the Diaz-Wilson ladies had fresh dirndls made, the wedding day gave Ho a chance to re-wear her reception gown from her 2018 Bali wedding.

And since all the bridesmaids wore embellished headpieces, Ho’s sister, Andrea Hawken, also wore the former’s wedding crown from New York brand Jennifer Behr. “[I’m] making it a point to rewear everything in my existing wardrobe,” Sunnies Face co-founder replied to a comment.

The brother of the bride’s heartwarming speech

Earlier this year, Wilson’s father, Robert, passed away. The bride’s brother, Sam, read the message Robert planned to share for the special day for his heartwarming speech. While the speech left no dry eye in the room, the crowd joined Sam in singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”—Liverpool FC’s chant, their father’s favorite team.
