It’s safe to say that there is no party anywhere in the globe that comes close to the uniqueness of Germany’s Oktoberfest. For the last 200 years, the annual beer festival has delighted millions. It all began on October 12, 1810, when Prince Ludwig I married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The people were fascinated by the new Crown Princess, and her popularity began to rise throughout Bavaria and Germany, leading the royals to invite the people of Munich to witness the grand nuptials. What resulted was the very first Oktoberfest, where families and friends gathered in celebration—drinking beer, singing songs, and playing games on the local fairground. It became such a big success with public, that the festival has become a tradition, annually held each year from late September to the first week of October. Roughly 6 million people pilgrimage to Munich each year, with over 7 million liters of beer consumed during the duration of the festival.

For over 80 years, the German Club Manila has hosted the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the Philippines. This year, they are partnering with Solaire Resort & Casino to bring the festive affair to life. “The German Club is a 112-year-old membership club in Manila, and this year, we are celebrating our biggest Oktoberfest yet. We are very delighted to continue this tradition in the Philippines and celebrate the occasion with our Filipino friends. We are pleased to have a new partner in Solaire,” says German Club President Tobias Rast. The club continued to share that Solaire’s expertise in staging international and local events, while serving impeccable culinary flavors through their in-house restaurants instantly drew them to the luxury hotel.
The German Club is also eager to pay homage to their culture, which is what Oktoberfest is all about. Their main goal is to recreate the Munich-based celebration as closely as possible, providing authentic food, good music, and exciting games traditionally played by partygoers. They’ve enlisted the help of the hotel’s German Chef, Michael Dinges, for an authentic Bavarian spread, which will include over 15,000 in-house made pretzels, schnitzel, pork knuckles (which Filipinos love to compare to the local crispy pata), and sausages. Solaire has announced that over 5000 kilos of pork has been ordered just for the three-day event!

Chef Michael shared that his homemade sausages are from a family recipe. Invented by his grandfather who owned butcher shops in Germany, he was taught how to make it as a child. He expressed his excitement on being able to share the heirloom recipe to the Oktoberfest goers in Manila. To ideally match the German chef’s culinary creations, Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery, will be coming in for the Manila celebration, providing 25,000 liters of their famous wheat beer.
In addition to an exemplary gastronomical journey, the upcoming festival promises to be a sensory experience. Held at the 2,400 square meter big Solaire Oktoberfest Tent, patrons will enter and instantly feel as if they are in the heart of Munich. The traditional blue and white tablecloths will be placed on long wooden tables, while the wait staff will happily serve you unlimited beers while wearing their customary dimdl dresses and lederhosens. Live entertainment will also be provided. The 12-man German band called the Bavarian Sound Express is flying in from Germany just for the get-together. Thrilling drinking games and lucky draws will be conducted throughout the evening as well. May the best beer drinker win! Prost!
