When celebrities collaborate with brands, it aims to inject the personalities’ interests and aesthetics into the product or advertising. However, you can’t be too sure how personal the partnership is.
Sometimes the celebrity really worked on the collaboration, or the brand just stuck the star’s name on labels for clout. Although the latter isn’t necessarily terrible, genuine partnerships make more interesting outputs.

When Francesca Aiello, the founder and creative director of Frankies Bikinis, was designing her latest swimwear line, she brought her childhood friend on board—ensuring a sentimental partnership.
And it couldn’t hurt, given that friend happens to be supermodel Gigi Hadid.
Special bond
As a result, the “Americana” collection is a sizeable 98-piece line inspired by Aiello and Hadid’s Malibu upbringing. At the same time, Hadid uses inspiration from her current life living on her farm in Pennsylvania.
“Gigi is someone that is so special and so inspiring to me,” Francesca Aiello shares a statement. “She is creative, hard-working, kind, and loving, and combining those incredible personality traits with our deep-rooted friendship is what really made this collection not only fun to create together but also to shoot together.”
With mutual excitement, Hadid added, “We designed this collection with so much love, and I believe that really shines through in the details within the fabrics, prints, and styles we chose to use. Both Frank and I have very social lives but also are big homebodies, and the collection really embodies that side of us.”
Symbolizing motherhood
The brand used summer fabrics like pointelle and terry cloth for beach cover-ups between the swimwear and loungewear items. “Our customers love to have a matching bikini and apparel moment, which allows for a seamless beach-to-street transition in your coordinated outfit,” Aiello tells Harper’s Bazaar.
Besides honoring her friendship with Aiello, solidifying Hadid’s personal touch on the collection is a piece inspired by becoming a mom.
In September 2020, Hadid gave birth to Kaii, her daughter with musician Zayn Malik. The model included a mother and baby deer detail in one toile printed one-piece to symbolize motherhood.
The 27-year-old included a tree stump detail on the same item to represent her bond to Aiello.
The collection is releasing through two drops on May 11 and June 2. All pieces will be exclusively sold at frankiesbikinis.com.
