The Notorious RBG has just as notable an art collection.
The Potomack Company has made the personal mementos of late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg available for auction.
These are divided into two categories: 20th and 21st Century Art (115 lots) and Chambers & Home (145 lots).
Altogether, the United States-based auction house has placed a total of 260 lots for bidding.
Highlights of the Ginsburg collection include an Eleanor Davis portrait of her dated 2015. The late justice also possesed a white earthenware ceramic plate by Pablo Picasso dated 1956.
The artworks further divide into subcategories of Asian Art & Antiques, Chinese Classical & Modern Drawings, Chinese Paintings, and Japanese Paintings.
Current bids in the artwork collection range from $275 to $25,000.
Proceeds from the sale of all items will go to the Washington National Opera, in support of Ginsburg’s “great love of the opera,” according to The Potomack Company.
Pillar of justice
“We remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A steadfast patron, a cherished critic, a supernumerary worthy of standing ovations, and our greatest advocate,” the Washington National Opera posted following the justice’s death.
Ginsburg passed away in 2020 at the age of 87. She served as an associate justice from 1993 to 2020, was the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court, and was regarded as a feminist icon.
Her notable actions include working to upend legislation that discriminated based on gender, being a founding counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union’s Women’s Rights Project, designing and teaching law courses on gender discrimination laws, and being outspoken about her disagreements with colleagues’ decisions during her tenure as justice.
