WATCH, LISTEN, AND PLAY: 3 Fantastic Voyages for an Extraordinary Weekend - Arts & Culture

If you’re just in the mood for the bizarre and uncanny, here are binge recommendations for an entertaining weekend.

Have you found yourself questioning much of the crazy things happening all around us? Still cooped up at home and nowhere to go to, we find ourselves searching for a means of escape. Immersing in a hobby, rediscovering long-forgotten memories, or surfing the vast realms of the internet. If reality feels all too bizarre and you need a much stranger world to escape to, here are a few recommendations to be in this weekend.

WATCH: Palm Springs on Hulu

If you’re big fans of Russian Doll, Groundhog Day, Butterfly Effect, or even Happy Death Day, Palm Springs delivers in another refreshed take of the time loop genre. Stuck in a torturous day, Nyles (Andy Samberg) pulls unwitting victim Sarah (Cristina Milioti) in—and in their eventual acceptance of the situation, hilarity ensues. While the concept is not exactly all original, the film will do for a bunch of laughs. The cast includes Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, and JK Simmons. While I be rewatching? Perhaps to revisit some laugh-out-loud scenes.

LISTEN: The Sandman Audiobook on Amazon

Neil Gaiman’s epic masterpiece is something many of us fans have long awaited in film or television. Other favorites such as Stardust, Coraline, and American Gods have been triumphant in their debuts. However, the Sandman series of comics have been well-guarded both by Gaiman and its overprotective fandom. With an enormous cast of well-developed characters (James McAvoy as Dream, Taron Egerton as John Constantine, Kat Dennings as Death, and Andy Serkis as Matthew the Raven, among many other famous names), the entire audiobook clocks in at about 11 hours. Totally worth it.

PLAY: Death Stranding on Steam

Legendary game master Hideo Kojima’s latest masterpiece is now available at Steam for those who prefer playing on their PCs. His first creation since his 2015 departure from Konami, Death Stranding beautifully eases between moments of silence and action. Play it for the fantastic soundtrack, gripping story, and impressive cast that features Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. The 50 hours of addictive gameplay in a post-apocalyptic world that almost seems too real is just the right remedy for an otherwise idle weekend.
