A Mindanao Memory
When Lifestyle Asia asked fashion designer Jaggy Glarino about the steps he took to create this collection, he replied, “I wish I had the luxury to go home and immerse myself in the Mindanao culture again. For this collection, I had to sit down and remind myself of the things I love about home. I recollected vivid memories of performing the song ‘Lemlunay’ as a choir member, garbed in traditional Tboli clothing—a fond memory from my youth. Growing up and living just an hour and a half away from Lake Sebu, I was always surrounded by people, memories, and cultural cues that instilled a deep appreciation and love for their artisanal works. This has been my springboard for creating this collection.”
When asked about his muse, he explained that it was the Tboli women. “I have always admired Tboli women, particularly their skill in combining colors and layering beaded and brasswork accessories. Their traditional attire and craftsmanship are incredibly inspiring to me. I had them especially in mind while creating this collection,” he said.
