Sports And Style Go Hand In Hand At Wimbledon 2024

From competing players to courtside spectators, these personalities stepped up their fashion game at the tennis championships.

The Wimbledon Championships is widely regarded as the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. Founded in 1877, it’s been held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London ever since.

This year’s Championships are happening from July 1 to 14. Plenty of celebrity tennis fans have already been spotted in their best attire while athletes have also been showing up in custom on-court outfits.

Fashion in Play

As per tradition, players at Wimbledon must wear all-white on the court. Even with the dress code, these athletes put their own flair into their tennis outfits.

Coco Gauff, currently the world No. 2, partnered with New Balance for her custom look. The cut-outs in her dress gave it the appearance of being a two-piece. Fans have commented that it’s reminiscent of Serena Williams’ 2019 Wimbledon outfit.

In a press conference after her victory over Anca Todoni, Gauff said that she favored crop tops and that the design was an elegant way to incorporate that element.

“I just think of Wimbledon as a tradition. The only thing you can really do here is play with the texture,” she continued.

Meanwhile, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka opted for ruffles on her custom-made Nike tank top. The two-piece outfit—which drew mixed reactions from fans—also features a pleated skirt.

The official Wimbledon website also commented that she was “Dressed in an elaborate outfit that wouldn’t have looked out of place at the Met Gala.”

For Marta Kostyuk’s outfit, she said its inspiration came from her own wedding dress. Wilson’s head of design, Joelle Michaeloff, was the one who made Kostyuk’s actual wedding dress and turned it into a functional tennis outfit.

“I think after Wimbledon is over, I will put this dress in a frame and hang it on the wall somewhere. It definitely will be one of the highlights of my life and my career. I mean what else can you ask for?” Kostyuk said.

Star-Studded Stands

Every year, famous spectators dressed in classically chic summer fashion fill up Wimbledon’s stands. Some fans tune into the celebrity sightings as much as the matches themselves.

Twin models and Princess Diana’s nieces, Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia Spencer, attended the event wearing similar linen suits in different light colors from Holland Cooper.

Spotted in the royal box, David Beckham wore a finely-tailored, bespoke Boss suit in beige. The football star watched the tennis matches with his mother, Sandra.

Following the athletes’ lead, singer Pixie Lott embraced the dress code and went for a white two-piece. Her metallic Camilla Elphick ballet flats matched her outfit’s silver buttons.

Meanwhile, actress Jameela Jamil opted for a darker hue, wearing a navy blue sailor dress. The white theme came through in the dress’ trim accents and her heels.

Both Rebel Wilson and Hannah Waddingham brought a pop of color with floral elements to the event, with Wilson in a silk twin set and Waddingham in a flowing halter neck dress.
