End Of An Era: Looking Back At Taylor Swift’s Massive World Tour

By

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour has been the most successful concert tour of all time.

After 149 shows across five continents, in the span of two years, Taylor Swift’s massive Eras Tour has finally come to a close.

The singer’s last show took place on December 8, in Vancouver, Canada. Swift ended the tour much like it began, no surprise guests or bonus songs, just the usual, spectacular show as we’ve come to know and love it.

The Final Show

Gracie Abrams, who also performed in some of the first few Eras Tour shows, was Swift’s last opening act. “I’m not ready for it to be over,” she said, reading from a handwritten letter.

“I’m saying that because like all of you I’ve grown up with Taylor’s songs, magically needing a moment in my life that I didn’t think anyone else could understand or know or ache or mourn or love or lost, and yet she knew.”

Finally taking the stage, Swift introduced the final show saying, “We are about to go on one last grand adventure together.”

“You know we have toured the entire world with this tour. We have had so many adventures. It’s been the most exciting, powerful, electrifying, intense, most challenging thing I’ve done in my entire life,” the singer continued.

“We’ve gotten to perform in front of 10 million people on this tour. And tonight we get to play one more show for you tonight, here in Vancouver and we’re gonna make it count.”

For her first surprise songs, Swift went with “A Place in this World” from her debut album and “New Romantics” from 1989, played on her guitar.

Moving to her moss-covered piano, she played “Long Live” from Speak Now, which was cut from the setlist after she added her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, to the show. Swift also changed the lyrics to “It was the end of an era, but the start of an age” (the original line is “end of a decade”).

She closed the acoustic set with “New Year’s Day” from Reputation and “The Manuscript” from TTPD. Back in her first Eras Tour show, Swift’s first piano performance was “Tim McGraw,” the first song from her debut album. It seems only fitting that she ended this section of the show with the last song from her latest record.

Swift ended the show, just like all the others, with “Karma,” an explosion of confetti, a final bow, and a big group hug. And just like that, the era of making and trading friendship bracelets, anticipating surprise songs, and watching Swift perform on grainy livestreams, has come to a close.

The Story Continues

Since The Eras Tour began, Swift has hit several career milestones. According to the Guinness World Records, it was the first music tour to earn a billion dollars and is still the highest-grossing one to date.

The tour has also received several accolades, including Show of the Summer at the MTV Video Music Awards, Concert Tour of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards, Tour of the Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, and Best Live Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Last year, Swift joined the billionaires club when her estimated net worth rose to $1.1 billion. She was the first musician to become a billionaire based solely on her music and performances. In October 2024, she officially became the world’s richest female musician, now worth $1.6 billion.

During the course of the tour, the singer released the re-recorded versions of her albums Speak Now and 1989 as well as her brand new record, The Tortured Poets Department.

She also had an accompanying concert film, documented at the Los Angeles shows, released in theaters in October 2023. It became the highest-grossing concert film as well, earning over $180 million.

Lastly, she just released the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Book. The 256-page coffee table book is filled with never-before-seen photos from the tour as well as Swift’s own personal anecdotes. According to Circana, the book sold 814,000 copies in its first two days. Now with almost a million copies sold, it is the biggest book launch of the year.

Hopefully the singer will now get to have some well-deserved rest and enjoy the fruits of her efforts, before dropping her next Taylor’s Version albums and more.
