It was a unique get-together that the Israel Embassy orchestrated at the ground floor of Manansala in Rockwell. Besides the launch of a comic book narrating the story of the humanitarian act of President Manuel L. Quezon to welcome Jews to the Philippines, it was an occasion for descendants of the families to meet. Members of the Quezon clan represented the Philippine Commonwealth leader, while the Hahn family accounted for those whose lives were saved by the Open Door policy, which President Quezon initiated. His daughter Nini Quezon-Avanceña met for the first time Leticia Hahn, who married a son of one of the refugees and raised their family here. Israeli Ambassador Effie Ben Matityau said that President Quezon’s act saved 1,300 Jews from the Holocaust.
