The celebrated Borough Market bakery is opening its first branch in the Philippines, poised to offer its signature sourdough and cult-favorite filled doughnuts at Glorietta 4.
London’s Bread Ahead is set to open its first Philippine bakery in Manila this November at Glorietta 4, in partnership with Good Eats by SSI. With it comes more than a decade of British artisan baking, taken straight from its original home in the iconic Borough Market, where it was founded by Matthew Jones in 2013. Since then, Bread Ahead has earned an international following for its slow-fermented sourdough breads and pizzas, artisan baked goods, and generously filled doughnuts.
Among its most sought-after creations is the Crème Brûlée Doughnut: a cult favorite that has inspired food lovers to make a beeline for Borough Market, sometimes straight from the airport.
For Jones, opening the bakery in the Philippines is a particularly meaningful milestone. “Since opening in Borough Market in 2013, we’ve welcomed customers from every corner of the world, including many visitors from the Philippines, so it feels incredibly special to bring Bread Ahead to Manila,” he shares.

Bread Ahead Philippines Offers A Slice of Borough Market
Bread Ahead’s Manila flagship is envisioned as a dining destination that embodies the very same energy and craftsmanship of its London home. The space will feature a full artisan bakery alongside a 150-seat restaurant serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, and light dinner, with table service throughout the day.
The stars are (expectedly), Bread Ahead’s signature slow-fermented sourdough breads and pizzas, prepared using traditional artisan techniques. Yes, that means freshly baked bread coming out of the ovens, as well as each pillowy doughnut filled and finished by hand. Bakers trained in the brand’s methods will follow the same standards and practices established in London, with a selection that includes artisan loaves, focaccia, cakes, pastries, and other sweet treats available from opening day.
Coveted Doughnuts And Sourdough At The Heart Of It
No visit to Bread Ahead would be complete without its celebrated filled doughnuts. Leading the Manila selection is the sought-after Crème Brûlée Doughnut, generously filled with custard and topped with a signature layer of caramelized sugar. Other favorites on the menu include Sea Salted Caramel with Honeycomb, Pistachio, Raspberry, and Lemon Curd, comprising a range of flavors for which the London bakery has become known. In a special nod to its new home, Bread Ahead will also introduce an exclusive UbeUbeA vivid purple yam native to the Philippines, cooked into a sweet jam called halaya and used in ice cream, cakes, and pastries. Prized for its earthy, vanilla-like flavor andGo to Ube Glossary Doughnut, developed specifically for the Philippine market. The creation pairs the bakery’s signature craftsmanship with one of the country’s most beloved and familiar flavors.

Bread Ahead’s reputation rests as much on its sourdough as it does on its doughnuts. Made using traditional artisan techniques and long fermentation methods, its breads have attracted a loyal following among home bakers, chefs, and bread enthusiasts.

The Bread Ahead Baking School Opens Early 2027
During the pandemic, founder Matthew Jones brought the craft into kitchens around the world through free online baking tutorials. His sourdough lessons reached an international audience, helping aspiring bakers learn the fundamentals of artisan bread-making from home. With its Manila opening, Bread Ahead will share that same dedication to the craft to local customers.
For those looking to develop their own baking skills, there’s more to look forward to: the brand plans to open a dedicated Bread Ahead Baking School by early 2027. The school will offer expert-led classes and workshops for aspiring bakers, home cooks, and food enthusiasts interested in learning the techniques behind its celebrated creations.
Bread Ahead opens this November 2026 at Glorietta 4, Makati. The store is open from 7 AM to 9 PM from Sunday to Thursday, and 7 AM to 10 PM from Friday to Saturday, 7:00 AM–10:00 PM. For more updates, follow @breadaheadphilippines on Instagram.
