Road Race: Red Bull Is Releasing Its First-Ever Production Car

The RB17, priced at $6.1 million, will be fully designed, developed, and manufactured in-house by Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the engineering and production company behind Red Bull’s Formula One team, just announced the first details of its new F1-inspired hypercar, the RB17.

The RB17 will start at £5 million (approximately $6.1 million) and be fully designed, developed, and manufactured in-house as Red Bull’s first-ever production car.

A milestone

“The RB17 marks an important milestone in the evolution of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, now fully capable of creating and manufacturing a series production car at our Red Bull Technology Campus,” says team principal Christian Horner, the CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

“Further, the RB17 marks the first time that a car wearing the Red Bull brand has been available to collectors.”

Only 50 cars will be manufactured when production begins by 2025. It will feature a VB hybrid engine with over 1,100 brake horsepower (BHP) two-seat hypercar designed around a carbon-composite tub and utilizing ground-effect—just like the current breed of an F1 car, according to Formula One.

Owners of an RB17 will also get perks through access to the team’s driving simulators, vehicle program development, and on-track training. In addition, the maintenance and servicing of each vehicle will be directly affected by Red Bull Advanced Technologies’ factors.

Extreme levels

“The RB17 distills everything we know about creating championship-winning Formula 1 cars into a package that delivers extreme levels of performance in a two-seat track car,” adds Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey. “Driven by our passion for performance at every level, the RB17 pushes design and technical boundaries far beyond what has been previously available to enthusiasts and collectors.”

Red Bull’s RB17 comes after the debut of Mercedes Benz’s Mercedes-AMG One, a production version of their F1 race cars. The One debuts five years after its announcement with a $2.72 million per unit price.
