The internet has been abuzz ever since the young actor announced his collaboration with the renowned fashion house.
At only 27 years old, Chalamet has already established himself as one of the most versatile and talented actors of his generation.
The French-American star first gained worldwide fame through his role in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name, where he starred as a young man falling for the charms of an older doctoral student, Oliver (played to perfection by Armie Hammer).
A few years later, the actor would breathe new life into the beloved character Laurie in Greta Gerwig’s 2019 adaptation of Little Women, before making waves as the star of sci-fi blockbuster Dune.
This growing list of highly-lauded performances is an impressive feat for someone his age, and he clearly has many more years of accomplishments ahead.
Just two days ago, the actor posted a teaser of his collaboration with French luxury giant Chanel, which contained the caption “CC X TC OTW” (fans translated this as “Coco Chanel x Timothée Chalamet On The Way).
Chanel officially confirmed their partnership with the actor yesterday through another Instagram post featuring a blue-tinted photo taken by Mario Sorrenti.
The post’s caption read: “CHANEL is pleased to announce that Timothée Chalamet will serve as the fragrance ambassador for BLEU DE CHANEL. A fragrance for the man who is deeply himself.” The brand also released a promotional video on the collaboration.
Chalamet wasted no time posting more pictures from his Chanel shoot with Sorrenti after the announcement. One featured him in a white tank and blazer, while the other showcased the actor wearing a classic jean jacket.
A Tale of Two Cultures
Chalamet grew up in a multicultural environment, spending time in the United States while visiting France (specifically the small village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon) during his summers.
In a recent interview with Dazed Digital, the actor talked about what it was like living between two vastly different worlds.
“For me, there was such a stark contrast between the self-empowerment of the United States and even the relationship I had with acting at a young age versus how things are done in France, where it felt like there was such respect for time, tradition and conversation. It’s things that, growing up, I didn’t have respect for at the time because I was drawn to more stereotypical American habits,” the actor shared.
However, the collaboration with Chanel couldn’t have come at a better period in his life, as it represents the star’s efforts to fully embrace his European roots.
“As I’ve grown older, I have connected more with the French side of myself, which is why the Bleu de Chanel ambassadorship is appealing at this time,” he explained.
With Chalamet’s immense popularity as an actor and Chanel’s undeniable status as a fashion powerhouse, this collaboration will surely be one for the books.
