The 70th Miss World hails from Poland, which shares a border with both Russia, to its north, and Ukraine, to its east.

In early March, over a week before Miss World 2021 was held, Bielawska posted about the conflict involving her neighbors.

“Currently, the whole world is moved by the injustice suffered by Ukraine. We cannot even imagine the amount of harm that those people are experiencing right now. That is why we are doing everything we can to help the war refugees coming to Poland,” she wrote.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has tallied 3.06 million refugees fleeing Ukraine since February 24. Of which, Poland has received the most refugees with the influx of a 1.85-million population.

In the first five days alone of the Russian invasion, over 280,000 people sought safety in Poland.

“On the first day of invasion, our nation immediately reacted and organized all that we possibly could to take care of all those innocent people looking for safety. I have to admit that I have never been more proud to be Polish than I am right now,” Bielawska wrote.

The newly crowned Miss World included the hashtag #SolidarityWithUkraine in her post.
