The León Gallery’s Magnificent September Auction promises to present an impressive set of art work from the most esteemed names of the Philippine art world. To complement the auction, curators Ramon N. Villegas and Lisa Guerrero Nakpil have conceptualized an exhibit consisting of important pieces from the Philippine Art Gallery (PAG), which have all been acquired from the impressive estate of Mr. Anthony Stoner, an architect and art lover who arrived in Manila during the 1950s.
The Stoner Collection features a long list of remarkable pieces that will be available for viewing on the day of the auction. Works by Fernando Zobel, Anita Magsaysay-Ho, Vincent Manansala, Jose John Santos III, Jose Joya, Ang Kiukok, Arturo Luz, Nena Saguil, and Rivera have been considered to be some of the most coveted pieces from their respective eras. The Magnificent September Auction 2017 is partnering with three noble foundations of which León Gallery is humbled to be part. They are the St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, Inc., the Meralco Foundation, Inc., and the Philippine General Hospital Foundation, Inc. Proceeds of the pieces donated to the institutions will be for the various charitable projects of the same.
