What To Know About Heathers The Musical Ahead Of Its Manila Run

Following sold-out runs in London, New York, and Melbourne, Heathers the Musical brings the darkly comic world of Westerberg High to Manila, where popularity is a matter of life and death. Based on the 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, the musical follows Veronica Sawyer, an ordinary student who suddenly finds herself at the top of the high school social hierarchy after being taken under the wing of the three beautiful, powerful, and impossibly cruel girls collectively referred to as the “Heathers.”

But Veronica’s newfound status comes with its own complications. When a mysterious teen rebel named J.D. enters her life, she finds herself caught between popularity, friendship, love, and the increasingly dangerous pressure to keep up appearances.

The musical first premiered in Los Angeles in 2013 before transferring to New York’s New World Stages in 2014. Its 2018 London production introduced new songs and an updated script, and the show has since gone on to three West End seasons, multiple sold-out UK and Ireland tours, and a 2019 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical. In 2022, the production was also filmed and streamed globally through The Roku Channel. Most recently, its 2025 return to New York’s New World Stages recorded the venue’s biggest advance sale in history and immediately extended due to demand.
