Rustan’s has relaunched a new version Amorsolo: Love & Passion, a two-volume book set that chronicles the work of Filipino national treasure Fernando Amorsolo and the subjects of his portraits. The book was the talk of the town the afternoon Rustan’s hosted a soiree for art and heritage lovers at their Makati Department Store. The privileged invited were excited for a sneak peak of the new edition. Amorsolo’s daughter Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo was in attendance, announcing that she herself recounts the memories behind every piece her father has made. With the help of editor Krip Yuson, Lazo’s narrations have been published into the book, allowing readers to delve deeper into the lives of those Amorsolo painted. Some prominent figures discussed in the edition include Senate President Manuel L. Quezon, Enrique Zobel Ayala and General Douglas McArthur.
Renowned worldwide, Amorsolo was best known for his portraits and masterful illuminated (chiaroscuro) landscapes. Passionate fans (which included elite members of the art world) stepped out to honor the late artist. A live Filipino folk music band played on throughout the evening to accompany the busy chatter of the room. It was appropriate to keep the Filipino theme as Amorsolo himself was considered a true patriot and an influence to the identify of our countrymen through his art.
Amorsolo: Love & Passion is now available at Rustan’s Makati, Rustan’s Shangri-La, Rustan’s Gateway, and Rustan’sAlabang. For every purchase, portion of the proceeds will go to EPCALM (Erwin PiedadCabanag Adult Leukemia Ministries), a non-profit organization, which reaches out to leukemia patients, as well as their families.
