“As global superstars put everything on the line for a special one-night-only concert, one singer–played by K-pop and musical theater sensation Luna–faces an inner struggle that threatens to dismantle one of the hottest labels in K-pop,” reads the musical’s official synopsis.

Luna is a real-life K-pop idol who was the main vocalist of the now-inactive girl group f(x) under the Korean label SM Entertainment.

Musical in the making

Outside of group promotions and other idol activities, Luna has worked as a musical actress in South Korea.

She has participated in Korean versions of stage musicals. These include the likes of Legally Blonde and High School Musical On Stage.

“Anyone who has followed my career knows that musical theater has always been a driving passion of mine. Broadway represents the pinnacle of achievement in my profession, so being able to bring my culture to the fans who flock here from all over the world to see a Broadway show is the honor of my life,” Luna said during a press conference.

Previously, KPOP premiered as a sold-out off-Broadway production in 2017 under Ars Nova. It is now preparing to debut at the Circle in the Square Theatre in Fall 2022. This comes after several unsuccessful attempts to stage the musical ahead of its official run.

“For those of you who already know and love K-pop music, this show is going to remind you why you fell in love with it in the first place. For those of you yet to discover K-pop, get ready. We are going to blow you away,” Luna concluded.
