For its September Soirée, Yellow Door Gallery is presenting an online exhibition featuring the artist Carlos. In these new vivid painting, he brings to mind the beauty and color of this wonderful world we live in.
Growing up around art
Born in 1950, Carlos grew up in a largely artistic environment. His father is the modernist architect Julio Victor Rocha and friends with National Artists Vicente Manansala and Victorio Edades. Along with his father’s one-time draftsman, Onib Olmedo, these men strongly influenced the young Carlos in their fervently modernist inclinations.
His artworks have been commissioned by various corporations and grace several offices and hotels such as the Raffles Hotel Manila and Crimson Hotel Manila. Carlos has also exhibited at the Ayala Museum, the Rockwell Center, and Le Souffle and L’Entrecote in Taguig, among other venues.

He has also had exhibitions outside of the country, including San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Brisbane. Auctions recently held in 2016, such as that held by Chosen Children Foundation in September 2016, also saw his paintings reach bids over 200 percent of current gallery prices.
“Art is an investment not easily quantified; the potential of its pure enjoyment is an investment that never loses its value,” Carlos says. “It only increases over time.”
Joyful world
Today, Carlos’s paintings have now evolved into works of art in a decidedly Fauvist style. His pieces are characterized by the celebration of life in their joyous combination of pleasurable subjects and intensified color, and by his energized view of the world and its natural beauty.
This is still largely seen in his new works and exhibit. The landscapes and scenery endeavor and embolden us to continue to appreciate, never take for granted, and to fight for this special planet we live in.
