This is to celebrate a double anniversary: the 25th year of partnership between the Swiss luxury brand and the prestigious film festival, as well as the latter’s 75th jubilee overall.

Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele redesigned the trophy in time for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. This will take place from May 17 to 28.

For this year’s edition, the Palme d’Or will have two of its leaves studded with 75 diamonds and 25 diamonds, respectively, to mark the double anniversary. The diamonds originated from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

Moreover, the Fairmined-certified ethical 18-carat gold sits on a rose quartz base instead of the traditional rock crystal. Rose quartz, according to the designer, alludes to the Greek mythology symbol of love.

Collective vision

“Chopard’s commitment to cinema is the result of a shared vision and long-term collaboration with the organizers of the Cannes festival. In 25 years, I have been privileged to witness special moments in the world of cinema and a lot of emotions,” Scheufele said in a statement.

As official partner, Chopard redesigned the Palme d’Or twice previously. In 2014, it began using Fairmined-certified ethical gold. Just five years ago, it reimagined the Palme d’Or with diamond-studded foliage.

“For 11 days, we are gathered in the enchanting setting of the Bay of Cannes. And yet we take pleasure in being confined inside a cinema to discover films inspired by love and passion. As well as by drama, struggles, and social issues,” Scheufele concluded.
