After first meeting as newborns in neighboring hospital bassinets, Gab Romualdez and Anja Abrogar spent decades finding their way back to one another, proving that while fate may bring two people together, it’s choosing each other that turns coincidence into forever.
On a sunny afternoon in July 2026, a man by the name of Gab Romualdez and a woman by the name of Anja Abrogar took their vows and began their married life beneath the soft glow of lights, surrounded by lush blooms. It was a new chapter, but it wasn’t the beginning. No, to find the beginning is to go back one fateful day in 1999, at Makati Medical Hospital, where the couple would meet for the first time—though they didn’t know just how entwined their lives would be. In fact, they didn’t know much of anything at all then: they were just two babies, born two days apart, and placed in bassinets right next to each other.

That Funny Little Thing Called Fate
Gab and Anja would cross paths a few more times after that. They met again at pre-school when they were two years old, and in a play, took on roles that seemed eerily prophetic, Gab playing Joseph with Anja as Mary.
The years stretched on, with occasional chance encounters in high school. They eventually found themselves in the same program at Ateneo de Manila University, once again drawn into each other’s orbit. It started with being classmates, then groupmates, and then later, friends; by 2018, they began taking the next step, deciding they were going to finally override happenstance. Seven years later, they stand as husband and wife.
“Over those seven years we’ve been blessed with the opportunity to fall in love with each other again and again, growing together, discovering new versions of ourselves, and somehow loving each version more than the last,” Anja shares.
The Beginnings Of A Family
Destiny isn’t sustained by extraordinary moments alone. It survives in the ordinary, namely the routines two people build until they realize they’ve already become a family. This is where Winnie, the couple’s old English sheepdog, enters the picture. Raising a large canine together became, as they describe it, a “parent-lite” experience
“Throughout our time together, Anja served as the rock of our little informal family, and has consistently been my personal rock in times of change and difficulty as I worked in investment banking,” Gab explains. “That has helped me realize that I need her in my life permanently.”

For Anja, certainty arrived gradually. Morning walks with Winnie, dinners together, conversations after work, and the routines they created made marriage a natural continuation of a life they were already creating. “Even as we both changed, we continued to grow in the same direction, and I realized that our hopes for marriage, family, our careers, and the kind of life we wanted were naturally aligned,” Anja says.
Falling Into Place: Inside The Wedding Celebration Of Gab Romualdez And Anja Abrogar
By their sixth anniversary, Gab realized that timing no longer needed to be perfect because it was already right. The proposal came disguised as an anniversary photoshoot in France. Knowing Anja had always wanted professional photographs from one of their trips, Gab arranged a session at the Château de Chantilly. Halfway through the shoot, he got down on one knee. Anja didn’t cry; smiling, laughing, and jumping for joy instead.
That same calm followed them to the altar; neither remembers feeling nervous—only grateful. Standing before the couple were people who witnessed different chapters of their lives, reminding them of just how loved they were. The celebration that followed reflected their life and love. Winnie made a memorable entrance with the newlyweds in a custom dress fashioned from the same flowing Francis Libiran fabric as Anja’s gown, happily remaining onstage as they welcomed their guests. Their carefully choreographed first dance, complete with lifts inspired by Dirty Dancing, gave way to an after-party filled with the little things they call their own, from cookies and milk to McDonald’s.
Choosing A Lifetime Together
What are the odds that two people would meet at different points in their lives, somehow finding each other repeatedly without necessarily planning to? You could walk through the same grocery store without ever having brushed shoulders with someone doing the same thing. That Anja and Gab not only found but chose each other, in this world brimming with millions of people and possibilities, is extraordinary.
Their lives first came together by chance, yet their marriage showcases the other half of this miracle: that fate may bring two people together, but it’s the steadfastness of choice that keeps them there. “Love is feeling at home with someone while still being excited for everything you have yet to experience together,” the couple share. “It’s knowing that no matter how much life changes and whatever life throws your way, you still want that same person beside you.” That might just be what transforms a series of coincidences into destiny, and fate into the closest thing we have to forever in this ephemeral world.
