In the mid-2000s, she was among Manila’s original ‘It’ girl. Celine Lopez, together with her glamorous clique, graced the super clubs within the metro. Everyone can read about their little adventures on detailed blogs of the night’s occurrences. This was the scene before social media emerged, along with its trend of curating experiences. Yet Celine believes one should always be original, advice from her dad that she keeps in mind.

Staying candid

Celine recounted every facet of her night adventures, but this would no longer work in today’s social media scene. Feeds seem to focus on depicting the best and beautiful moments in one’s life. “People these days lose that seamless sense of fun by taking photos instead of dancing or flirting.” This shows how curating feeds can take away authentic experiences and for personality to be lost in some way. When asked why this could have happened, Celine observed, “People refuse to read now.” There seems to be an emphasis on condensing content to make it easier to digest. Celine admits, “I still am a fan [of] the written word. Although, I love it when people get creative with their IG stories.”

Though she recognizes changing trends in social media, she encourages people to be original, a reflection of herself. “One thing about me is that I’m too candid. I do wish I could be more careful. But I am the train wreck that I am.” she says. Although she has regrets from her youth, she learned from her flaws. She realized the value of authenticity especially in this digital age through her business Gypsy Rosé and through her experiences. At present, she wants to remain sincere. She wishes to be perceived as a genuine person both on- and off- social media.
