Merging Hospitality And Entertainment: The Art Of Events Hosting

Kevin Lapeña shares his inspiring journey as an events host while revealing the multidisciplinary aspects of his profession.

This is an excerpt from Lifestyle Asia’s June 2023 Issue.

What exactly does it take to be a wedding host? The answer might seem fairly simple: you need to be a gregarious person who can read a program’s script through a microphone. Of course, if it were that easy, there wouldn’t be a specialized role for the job. Establishing a confident appearance and ensuring that a program goes smoothly is all part of the occupation.

In some sense, hosts are magicians in their own right: audiences see the spectacle, but not necessarily the sleight of hand or behind-the-scenes work. Take it from professional events host Kevin Lapeña, who’s worked on weddings since 2015.

BORN TO PLAY THE PART

Lapeña’s portfolio of work is as extensive as it is impressive. The young professional has been hosting events since his college days in 2007, from friends’ debuts to school functions. He would eventually go on to host several TV shows for major networks—both local and international—as well as corporate live events on the side. These illustrious projects included CNN Philippines’ travel show GPS TV, Living Asia’s Travel Guide, and ABS-CBN’s Tara G! and Trip Na Trip.

With his quick-witted personality and eloquent speaking, it’s no surprise that Lapeña has been entrusted with events from some of the country’s most prestigious conglomerates.

THE ART OF HOSTING

“Hosting weddings can seem pretty straightforward, but what a lot of people might not know is, the actual presentation the audience sees, is just half of what comes with the responsibility of being a wedding host,” shared Lapeña with Lifestyle Asia.
