Singer-songwriter Dua Lipa releases her new single “Houdini” in a secretive London fan event. The song features an electro dance vibe that tackles singlehood chronicles and self-worth.
British-Albanian singer-songwriter Dua Lipa dropped a new single titled “Houdini” which she revealed in a “secretive fan event” in London.
Reuters reported that the track is the first single from her third studio album to be released next year. This song followed Lipa’s Barbie soundtrack song “Dance the Night” which came out in May.
Music producer and composer Danny L. Harle and Kevin Parker, also known as Tame Impala, produced the song.
Lipa treated her lucky fans to the single’s music video’s early screening. She appeared onstage as well at her fan event held at the English National Ballet in London.
Named after illusionist and escape artist Harry Houdini
The song bore the title from the celebrated illusionist and escape artist Harry Houdini as per Reuters.
It contained the lyrics “They say I come and I go, tell me all the ways you need me. I’m not here for long, catch me or I go Houdini.”
Lipa said that “Houdini” embodies the energy of a good night out in a statement to Apple Music. She wrote the song as an ode to singlehood and the freeing feeling that it came with.
The singer added that the song’s flirty lyrics had an underlying message about having no guilt following one’s self worth.
“Sometimes you just have to pull a Houdini and leave a situation that’s no longer serving you,” Lipa said.
Upcoming pop album is “sonically different”
Lipa teased her collaboration with Harle and Impala on Instagram a few days before dropping “Houdini.” Lipa worked with Impala previously in the soundtrack song “Dance The Night Away.”
Variety reported that Lipa said in an interview that her third album would “still be pop but sonically different.” The singer added that the lyrics of the songs work thematically and fans would have to wait as the album will make sense through the title.
Lipa launched “Houdini” in her London fan event on November 8 and released the song on all platforms day after.
Dua Lipa prepares for two more launch events
The singer announced on Instagram that she would be doing three launch events. She held one already in London. She mentioned that her upcoming launch events are coming to Los Angeles (November 14) and Tokyo (November 20).
Lipa popularized the hit songs “New Rules,” “One Kiss,” “Levitating,” and “Don’t Start Now.”
She released her sophomore album Future Nostalgia in 2020. It became an international chart-topper that won her a Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy and British Album of the Year Brit Award.
