What emotions does February as the love month evoke for you and your partner?
Marilu: Valentine’s Day happens to also be my birthday so it’s a double celebration for me! The month of February is always filled with lovely birthday gatherings with my family and friends so it’s very much a month of love and warmth.

Alou: February has always been a working month for me in Europe and occasionally in Asia for many years now as I have to be there to do the fashion buy with Johnlu, my husband and together with my team. It always feels special to be there as the climate is cool and the shops and restaurants are quite unique.
Kai: February is a busy month for us as it’s my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. Valentine’s is sandwiched between these two occasions. So least to say, February is a happy and love-filled month for our family.
Tweetie: February comes soon after my husband’s birthday on the 24th of January, so the highs of his special day usually carry over into the next month until Valentine’s Day. No matter that we are almost 29 years married, we continue to feel the romance that the February air brings.

Are there any traditions you celebrate together during Valentine’s season?
Marilu: My husband usually takes me out somewhere nice for dinner on the night before Valentine’s and then on Valentine’s Day itself we have a tradition of always celebrating at home with champagne, pizza and birthday cake! Every single year! I think this tradition began when our sons were very young and wanted to be with me on my birthday.
Alou: We don’t have strict rules or tradition to follow except that we made sure to always be together on Valentine’s Day.

Kai: We usually celebrate Valentine’s as a family. We bring our kids out with us to dinner. Bryan of course remembers the women in our family-me, our daughter, our two mothers, and sisters.
Tweetie: We never go out on Valentine’s Day for a celebration, we can be practical that way. We do, however, prepare something special at home and be comfortable and happy with our kids, feasting on our favorite party fare.
What are your most meaningful February memories as a couple?
Marilu: I love the trips we have taken in February. From beach weekends away to wintery trips to New York City where our sons are based. Spending Valentine’s and my birthday with my husband and boys, when we are complete, is the biggest joy.
Alou: Not really meaningful but memorable…it was Valentine’s 2005, we had made arrangements for dinner, etc. in Paris and on that fateful morning my husband woke up to an excruciating toothache that needed dental attention.. all plans were put off after the dentist told him that he had a big problem!
Kai: Our destination wedding 17 years ago and recently, Bryan’s milestone birthday this month.

Tweetie: It is the little things that make the memories special-small acts of love that remind us we’ve got each other-random utterings of “Thank you for staying beside me always,” “I love how you fixed your hair,” “You always look so neat,” and many others. And I hope the children see how simple statements do so much for one’s heart.

How are you celebrating the love month this 2024?
Marilu: I have my Mom and family in town this February so I’m so happy and filled with love and gratitude for this special time.
Alou: We will be in Munich, the birthplace of ESCADA, a brand that I’ve been handling for the past 31 years now. Since we will be in familiar territory, we will dine at the popular Brenner Grill right next to the Hotel Kempinski at Maximillian Street.
Kai: Same as always! Dinner with our kids. They’re growing up so fast. We cherish these dates with them before they start going on their own Valentine’s dates.
Tweetie: The same way as we do each year-keep it lovely and romantic, peaceful and stress free with our favorite dishes at home.
