Preserving Heritage: Balenciaga Is Opening a Couture Store at Its First Location in Paris - Lookbook

The store’s most expensive piece retails for over €100,000.

Balenciaga is opening a store dedicated to its couture collections. While couture fashion week is ongoing in Paris, the house will open its doors on July 6, simultaneously with its scheduled show.

Dedicated to “preserving Balenciaga’s heritage, as well as creating a couture for today,” according to Vogue Business, the 103-year-old brand returns to its original couture location at 10 Avenue George V, where Balenciaga first opened in 1937.

In contrast to ready-to-wear, couture pieces are made to order and require appointments (however, the store will require this too) and fittings for one-off creations. Balenciaga’s CEO Cédric Charbit told the publication that couture today is “a little too confidential. It’s wonderful when you have the chance to see ateliers, to see couture pieces up close, the creation and the know-how, it’s important to share.”

Back again

The store has two areas for men and women, with a second floor for the couture salon. Expectedly, pieces will be limited edition, and clients have the choice to alter and personalize their purchased garments.

After a 53-year gap, Balenciaga only returned to its couture segment last year, headed by its Georgian creative director Demna Gvasalia.
