Call For Aid: How To Help Filipinos Affected By July 2022 Luzon Earthquake

If an earthquake can move mountains, so can man for his neighbor.

A magnitude 7 earthquake shook northwestern Luzon provinces and adjacent areas like Metro Manila on the morning of July 27.

State seismology bureau PHIVOLCS recorded the earthquake’s epicenter in Tayum, Abra, which reported Intensity VII (destructive). Other Luzon areas, meanwhile, experienced intensities ranging from scarcely perceptible to very strong.

“We reiterate our recommendation that the public [should] be cautious of structures visibly weakened, having signs of damage, or partially collapsed by the July 27, 2022 event. The continuing aftershocks may cause further damage to already weakened structures,” PHIVOLCS said in its July 28 update.

The earthquake affected at least 82,336 families and 314,161 people in 11 provinces. This includes 34,291 displaced persons, 10 dead, and 375 injured, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) situational report dated July 31.

Lastly, the NDRRMC estimated the cost of damage to infrastructure at P414.22 million.
