Film Concerts Philippines brings iconic movie scores to Proscenium Theater with Film Music Legends, beginning with The Music of John Williams: 95th Birthday Tribute in January 2027.
Film scores have a way of staying with us even after the credits roll. Now, some of cinema’s most memorable compositions are getting their own moment in the spotlight with Film Music Legends, a new orchestral concert series by Film Concerts Philippines in collaboration with Third CultureCultureshared traditions, beliefs, values, customs, arts, and social practices that define the identity and way of life of a community, society, or nation.Go to Culture Glossary Entertainment Inc. Curated by Maestro Gerard Salonga, the series will present film music as standalone symphonic works, letting audiences experience familiar scores alongside pieces that rarely make it to the concert stage. The first installment, The Music of John Williams: 95th Birthday Tribute, will take place on January 30 and 31, 2027, at Proscenium Theater in Rockwell Center, Makati.

Performed live by the Filharmonika Orchestra under Salonga’s baton, Film Music Legends takes a closer look at the music behind some of cinema’s biggest moments. Each installment will explore a composer’s wider body of work, pairing beloved themes with deeper cuts, while select programs will bring together composers connected by a particular genre, theme, or period in film history.
The inaugural concert celebrates John Williams in honor of his 95th birthday, with a program spanning Star Wars, Harry Potter, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Superman, Saving Private Ryan, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Amistad, and Fiddler on the Roof.
The series continues in May with Italian Film Music Legends, featuring the works of Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and Nicola Piovani, before closing in September with a program dedicated to heroic and villainous scores across horror, thrillers, Westerns, and superhero films.
For Salonga, the series is an opportunity to let these scores exist outside the films they were written for. “Yes, the music was originally composed for film, but as you will hear, these pieces can stand up very well on their own as concert pieces,” he says.
The setting is equally deliberate. Proscenium Theater’s 776-seat main hall was designed with acoustic expertise from Müller-BBM, allowing the orchestra to perform without microphones or amplification. Instead, the series will rely on the theater’s natural acoustics to bring out the detail of each composition.
If you’ve ever found yourself humming a movie theme long after leaving the theater, Film Music Legends offers a chance to hear those compositions in a new setting: live, orchestral, and entirely on their own terms.
