Skin in the Game: Joe Jonas Becomes Co-owner of This Canned Cocktail Brand and Releases a Line of ‘Fizzy Sangria’ - The Scene

It’s a growing list.

After Nick Jonas released his tequila brand, Villa One, in 2019, Joe Jonas joined his brother and several other celebrities in the alcoholic beverage game.

Last week, the DNCE frontman announced his partnership with Ohza, one of the recognizable ready-to-drink cocktail companies in the industry. Ohza’s known for their canned mimosas, available in flavors like mango, cranberry, pineapple, and grapefruit.

Besides an undisclosed investment in the company (enough to make him a new co-owner), Jonas released his own product line, Fizzy Sangria—the first “sparkling” sangria on the market. It’s made with a blend of fruit and sparkling red wine. 

Chance encounter

In an interview with Forbes, Jonas recalled the first time he was introduced to the brand, “The first time I tried Ohza Mimosa was when DNCE was shooting our music video Dancing Feet with [the DJ] Kygo. They were down the street from where we were shooting the video and wanted us to try the product, and I loved it and the team.” 

After the chance encounter, he formed a friendship with Ryan Ayotte, the chairman of Simple Skiff Beverages, Ohza’s parent company. “Bringing on a celebrity investor is one thing, but it’s far more challenging to find someone to build a product line around,” Ayotte told the publication. 

The CEO had four requirements for a personality: “huge national recognition, an extremely loyal fanbase that matched our consumer, a personality that matches the brand, and a willingness to truly help the business generate long-term success.” 

Drink up

According to Ayotte, from Jonas, they get all that “in spades.”

Miles Teller’s gin-based Long Drink also recently launched in time with the release of his new film Top Gun: Maverick. At the same time, actresses Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rosario Dawson joined forces to make Margalicious Margarita. 

Jonas’ fellow musicians, The Chainsmokers, Metallica, Ciara, and Adam Levine with his VS angel wife Behati Prinsloo, have also launched alcohol brands.
