Paying Tribute To Dance

Established in 1982 by the International Theatre Institute, International Dance Day is celebrated every April 29 in honor of Jean Georges Noverre, widely regarded as the father of modern ballet. It’s a reminder of dance’s ability to transcend borders, cultures, and languages as an art form of physical expression.

From classical ballet to contemporary and traditional dance, the program reflects an art form’s many facets while paying tribute to the talented communities that keep it alive.

A Week Of Movement At The International Dance Day Fest  2026

The 2026 International Dance Day Fest kicks off with an Opening Gala featuring the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Studio Company, joined by special guest principal dancers Thomas Forster and Christine Shevchenko. This performance, made possible through additional support from Ayala Foundation and Steps Dance Foundation, will be setting the tone for the week to come through a display of classical excellence on a global stage.

Educational and interactive experiences will also be enhancing the festivities. Public school students will be immersing themselves in a free special lecture-demonstration led by ABT Studio Company Artistic Director Sascha Radetsky, who’ll be offering them a behind-the-scenes look at how the company’s performances come to life. The presentation will be held at 2 PM at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.

The Joffrey Ballet, alongside Gerald Arpino Foundation répétiteur Christine Rocas, will also be staging and teaching excerpts from two of Gerald Arpino’s well-known works, further highlighting the cultural exchange initiatives championed by the International Dance Day Festival.
