The golf course had a recent rash of positive cases among its F&B staff, prompting the indefinite closure.

In a circular dated yesterday, the management of the Manila Golf and Country Club announced that it will close temporarily following the news that eight members of their kitchen staff tested positive for COVID-19. The closure starts today, March 19, and will remain so “until further notice in order to pave the way for high level disinfection of the entire premises and on-site testing of all its employees as well as contractual personnel,” reads the statement.
The infected employees included one waiter, six food preparation staff and one roving snack cart operator. “This is a matter of concern considering that several other employees have yet to be tested,” explains the letter, which was signed by the club’s general manager San Agustin Albina.
Founded in 1901 and originally located in Caloocan, it used to host Asia’s oldest national golf tournament, the Philippine Open. The course then moved to Makati in 1949 after World War II, on a 44-hectare area next door to Fort William Mckinley.
According to the UP-Octa Research Team, Metro Manila is currently going through a “serious surge” of COVID cases, which has been unseen since last May.
