Phenomenal Finale: Filipino Designers Host Spectacular Shows

As the year comes to a close, our brilliant Filipino designers hosted spectacular shows, offering a phenomenal 2023 finale.

Filipino ingenuity and excellence take center stage as our country’s very own celebrated fashion designers captivate us with their craftsmanship.

The Orient Express inspires Natori’s collection

Natori took its audience on a journey to opulence with their Fall 2023 collection. They derived the concept from The Orient Express’ world of endless travel.

Natori stated that the collection romanticizes essentials for such 24/7 travel. It highlights frocks that are versatile for every every season. “Comfort, versatility, and endless black layers are key,” the fashion house said.

“You want something that is timeless, that has no season,” American-Filipina and brand owner Josie Natori added, when asked about the collection inspired by traveling.

The brand utilized a palette in varying shades of gray with complementing warm, cool, and autumnal notes of “burnt amber, bordeaux and olive.” The clothes featured rich Italian fabrics from feminine laces, knitwear, jerseys, felt, faux lambskin, and bouclé to create harmonious luxury. Adding jacquards or fabric created on a Jacquard loom created textured elements for the garments.

Their collection encompassed the formal opulence from the 19th century that met with 21st century’s conscious comfort midway. There’s no better way to explore the world than wearing their collection of capes, ponchos, vests, jackets, sheared minks, and more, with a Filipino twist.

When asked about the difference of Natori’s Filipiniana collection from others, the designer said that it’s the materials used by the brand that made it stand out. “I want to be true to the spirit of craftsmanship,” Natori explained.

On why she decided to create her very first Filipiniana collection, she replied, “It just seemed like the right time,” adding that many are donning the style these days. She also said that no one has seen this type of collection before and just felt that the Philippines, specifically Manila, is the place for it.

Natori held its fashion show on November 14 at the Ayala Museum where the brand unveiled its Fall 2023 line.

Michael Cinco’s Impalpable Dream of España

World-renowned Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco said that it was important to give back to his supporters. Cinco added that being an awardee of the Gusi Peace Prize last year inspired him to create a show that will contribute to the foundation.

The designer called his fashion show, “The Philippine Legacy Gala 2023 – Michael Cinco: The Impalpable Dream of España.” Cinco’s Impalpable Dream of España highlighted Spain’s vibrant culture. The fashion designer expressed immense fascination with the country.

His catwalk showed a fusion of Spanish art, history, and architecture. Garments formed breathtaking tributes to the country’s La Sagrada de Familia, designs that Salvador Dalo and Pablo Picasso inspired, and the Spanish matadors and flamenco dancers. 

The fashion gala saw the launch of Cinco’s new perfume series and jewelry line as well. 

Cinco demonstrated excellent skill through capturing Spain’s classic and timeless charm in every piece he produced. Referred to as “a couture extravaganza like no other,” the show took place on November 27 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom Manila.

Francis Libiran’s sterling year

Celebrating 25 years in fashion has been a great endeavor for Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran. His 25th celebration called “Sterling” highlighted the brand’s brilliant work. The brand said that its collection paid homage to the mythical creature, the phoenix.

“The collection is a true reflection of the brand, constantly and consistently rising above the expected,” the brand said.

Libiran’s designs featured an array of silver and gold, splashes of sparkle, and the designer’s notable architectural patterns. 

Every detail present in his handiwork highlights his commitment to elegance and innovation. His creations continue to ascend and elevate Filipino fashion with grace, grit, and glamor for many generations to come. The brand left an indelible mark in the industry through its signature sophistication that “withstands the test of time.”

Libiran held “Sterling” at the City of Dreams Manila’s Grand Ballroom last November 24.

Puey Quiñones’ refined and luxurious collection

Fashion luminary Puey Quiñones collaborated with Rustan’s for a collection unlike any other. Puey Quiñones x Rustan’s or “PQ Luxe Collection” is a symphony of holiday hues and timeless ivory white, according to the brand’s press release. 

“The silhouettes mirror the modern Filipina’s intricate layers, reflecting her strength and resilience,” the brand said. The collaboration line exuded elegance that stretches from traditional to the modernity of times.

Quiñones brought his unmistakable luxe aesthetic into the collaboration. All of the garments in the collection featured meticulously stitched details and folds.

The designer exhibited his brand’s “Handpainted Series,” showing a line that offered a unique experience for those who appreciate both craftsmanship and beauty. Quiñones released the “Versatile” collection as well. The line embraced the limitless possibilities of expression and elevated looks through couture in ready to wear.

“This collaboration is more than just a partnership; it is a testament to the multifaceted nature of the women who inspire us,” the brand said.

Puey Quiñones x Rustan’s launched on November 8, at The Gallerie, Rustan’s Makati.

Septième Rebelle boasts an 84-look collection

Robbie Santos, the designer behind the brand Septième Rebelle, celebrated seven years in the fashion industry. What better way to highlight such excellence than to release an 84-look collection?

He titled his latest offering as “Devenir” which is French for “to become.” The brand said the collection is a personal take on self-actualization through fashion that can be worn from day to night.

Santos’ latest line drew inspiration as well from his fascination with World War II documentaries. Some trousers in the collection had unique cuts that mimicked the sense of being handicapped. The designer interpreted the style as “humans having our own set of disabilities.” 

“No matter how incapacitated we may feel, we always have the choice to think, feel, and become beautiful–or Devenir Belle,” the brand said.

The designer’s 84-look collection exhibited intricate beadwork, zig-zag elements, and opulent embroidered details. Santos’ signature asymmetric cuts and techniques became evident in every garment’s stitchworks. All materials and fabrics are specially sourced around the world.

When asked what his next big dream is, Santos said that his big dream is not to have a big project or to have success, but to have a longer life in order for him to keep doing the thing that he loves.

Septième Rebelle held its show at the Manila Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom on October 25.

A Symphony of Feelings

Designer Anthony Ramirez held a remarkable fashion show celebrating his 15 years in the fashion scene. The event featured an array of styles with intricate details and feminine elements.

Ramirez’s “Symphony of Feelings” displayed his creations that became the designer’s canvas to convey emotions. The fashion show took place on October 18 in Quezon City which served as a home to the designer’s atelier.

The designer’s fashion show gave tribute to sensual styles, glitz and glamor, and a touch of classic elegance. The clothes in his launched line are flowy, comfortable, and stylish.

Ramirez’s love for his craft is evident in his stitchwork and concepts. His stunning creations served as a tribute to people of all body types and eras. He proved through his brilliant works that fashion transcends physical and tangible luxe, but is also an expression of ourselves and our emotions.
